TreWise

Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 August 2026

TreWise is run by Swan Media Solutions Inc., 685 Middleton Way, Coldstream, British Columbia, V1B 2V5, Canada.

This explains what we collect, where it goes, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written plainly on purpose.

The short version

You type your expenses in. We store them so you can see them again. We do not connect to your bank, we do not run ads, and we do not sell or share your information with anyone for marketing.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, a password we never see in readable form, your display name, and your timezone.

Your money records. Everything you enter: amounts, dates, categories, notes, which household member paid, and who each expense was for. Your recurring bills. Whatever you import from a spreadsheet.

Your household. Its name, currency, and who belongs to it. If you invite someone, we store the email address you invite.

Your purchase. When you buy TreWise, Stripe handles the payment on their own page. We receive your name, your email address, the amount, and Stripe's reference numbers. We never see or store your card details. They do not pass through our systems.

Feedback you send us. What you write, plus the page you were on, your browser type, and your screen size, so we can reproduce problems without asking you technical questions.

Visits to our marketing pages. The public pages at trewise.app use Google Analytics to count visitors. It records page views and whether the buy button was clicked. It does not receive your name, email, or anything about your money.

Google Analytics does not run inside the app. Once you are signed in, nothing about your use of TreWise is sent to any analytics service.

What we do not collect

Where your information is stored

TreWise is built and run in Canada. Swan Media Solutions Inc. is a British Columbia company and Canadian privacy law applies to how we handle your information.

The servers themselves are in the United States. Our database is hosted on Amazon Web Services in Oregon, which is where your entries physically live.

That means your information is stored outside Canada and, like anything held on US infrastructure, may be subject to US law. We would rather tell you plainly than leave it in the fine print.

Who else can see it

We use a small number of companies to run TreWise. Each sees only what it needs.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to train anything.

Google Sheets sync

TreWise is built to sync your data to a Google Sheet you own. This feature is not switched on yet and no customer data has ever been sent to Google Sheets.

When it is available, it will work like this: you share a spreadsheet in your own Google account with an address belonging to TreWise, and we write your transaction rows into it. That includes dates, amounts, categories, notes, and who paid.

It uses a single shared application credential rather than asking you to log into Google. That means one credential controlled by us has permission to write to the sheets our customers have shared. You can revoke that access at any time by removing the sharing from your own sheet. We will update this policy before the feature goes live.

Who at TreWise can see your money

Inside the app, only members of your household can see your household's entries. That is enforced at the database level, and it applies to us too when we are using the app. The admin screen used to manage customer accounts shows only household names, owner email addresses, and how many entries exist. It shows no amounts, no notes, and no categories.

As with any software company, a very small number of people can access the systems that run TreWise in order to operate, support and back up the service. We keep that access to what is necessary and we do not read customers' entries.

Everyone in your household sees everything

TreWise has no private entries. Every member of a household sees every transaction in it, including who paid and who each one was for. That is deliberate, because shared numbers only work if nobody can hide anything.

If you invite someone, you are giving them full access to your household's financial records. Invite accordingly.

Cookies and browser storage

Necessary for the app to work:

On our marketing pages only:

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies anywhere.

How we protect it

Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Your password is stored as a bcrypt hash, which means we could not read it even if we wanted to. The database sits on encrypted storage.

Your entries themselves are stored as ordinary database records rather than being individually encrypted, which is standard for a service that has to add up your spending and show it back to you.

How long we keep it

Deleted entries sit in your trash for 30 days, then are permanently removed. You can empty the trash sooner if you want.

If you refund your purchase, your access ends but your data is kept rather than deleted, in case you come back. Ask us and we will delete it.

Otherwise we keep your information while your account exists.

Your choices

You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, from Account settings. It is permanent.

You can also email jswan@swanmediasolutions.com and we will:

Under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act you can ask to see your information and ask us to correct it. If we ever say no to something, we will tell you why.

Children

TreWise is for adults. Do not create an account if you are under 19.

Changes

If we change this in a way that matters, we will tell customers by email rather than quietly updating the page.
