Terms of service

TreWise is provided by Swan Media Solutions Inc., a British Columbia company. Using it means you agree to what follows.

What TreWise is

A web application for recording what your household spends and earns, and seeing it summarised. You enter the information yourself. TreWise does not connect to your bank and never will.

TreWise is a record-keeping tool. It is not financial advice, not accounting software, and not a substitute for an accountant. What you do with the numbers is your business.

Your account

You need to be 19 or older.

You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself and for everything done through your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access.

One person per account. Do not share sign-ins.

Households and invitations

When you invite someone to your household, they get full access to every entry in it, and they can add and edit entries themselves. There are no private entries in TreWise.

Access is attached to the household, not the person. One person pays and everyone in that household is covered.

If you remove a member, they lose access. Anything they entered stays.

What you pay

Founding offer: $29 CAD, once, for lifetime access. Limited to the first 50 places.

"Lifetime" means for as long as TreWise exists as a product. If we ever shut it down, you get at least 90 days notice and the ability to export everything you have entered. It does not mean forever regardless of circumstance, and we would rather say that now than have you find out later.

What lifetime includes: every feature we build. If we ever add something that carries an ongoing per-user cost from an outside provider, that would be an optional paid add-on. Everything else is included.

After the founding places are gone, TreWise will be $39 a year. Founding members are not affected.

Prices are in Canadian dollars. If your card is in another currency, your bank converts it.

Refunds

30 days, no questions. Email jswan@swanmediasolutions.com and we refund you the same day. We will ask once what did not work, because it helps us, and we will refund you whether you answer or not.

After 30 days, refunds are at our discretion. Ask anyway if something has gone wrong.

If you are refunded, your access ends.

Your data belongs to you

You own everything you enter. We claim no rights over it.

You can export it to CSV at any time, and we would rather you knew that up front. You can delete your account and its contents yourself from Account settings, or ask us to do it.

What we ask of you

Do not try to break into other people's households or into our systems. Do not use TreWise for anything illegal. Do not resell access. Do not attempt to disrupt the service for others.

If you do any of these, we may suspend or close your account. If we close it for a reason other than a breach of these terms, you get a refund.

What we do not promise

We work hard to keep TreWise running and correct, but we are a small company and cannot promise it will never go down or never contain a bug.

Check your own numbers. TreWise calculates totals, projections, and comparisons from what you enter. If something looks wrong, it may be. Do not make an important financial decision on a number you have not sanity-checked yourself.

Keep your own copy. Export to CSV periodically. We take reasonable care of your data and we back it up, but no software company can guarantee data will never be lost.

TreWise is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law requires and does not allow us to exclude.

Liability

Where the law allows us to limit it, our total liability to you for anything connected to TreWise is capped at what you paid us. For a founding member that is $29.

We are not liable for financial decisions you make, for tax outcomes, for money lost through errors in what you entered, or for anything indirect or consequential.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Ending it

You can stop using TreWise whenever you like, and delete your account from Account settings.

We may close an account that breaches these terms, or if we shut the service down, with the notice described above.

Changes to these terms

If we change something that materially affects you, we will email you rather than quietly editing this page.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia.
